Exterior Inspection
Inside
- Remove the Control Lock
- Momentarily turn on the battery switch and check fuel quantity gauges
- With battery switch “ON” check operation of stall warning transmitter tab and warning horn
- If a night flight is planned, with battery switch “ON”, check operation of all lights
Right side fuselage
- Close baggage door and check for security
- Check static pressure source hole for obstruction
Tail
- Remove external surface locks, if installed
- Check general condition of elevator, rudder and trim tab hinges, hinge bolts and actuator rod bolts
- Remove tie-down
Left side fuselage
- Check static pressure source hole for obstruction
Left wing – rear
- Check aileron and tab hinges and hinge and actuator rod bolts
Left Wing – tip
- Check fuel quantity in main tank by dipping
- Check main fuel tank filler cap for security
- On first flight of the day, check fuel from drain sump
- Check main fuel tank vent for obstruction
Left Wing – between tip and engine
- Check fuel quantity in auxiliary tank by dipping
- Check auxiliary fuel tank filler cap for security
- Check auxiliary fuel tank vent for obstruction
- On first flight of the day, check fuel from drain sump
- Check battery drain and battery compartment cover panel for security
- Check landing light for damage
- Remove tie-down
Left Wing – engine
- Check oil level (minimum 9 quarts), fill to 12 quarts for extended flight
- Secure dip stick
- Check generator belt tight
- Check general condition of engine
- Check main landing gear strut and tyre inflation
- Check gear door for security
- On first flight of the day, drain 60ml from the strainer
Left Wing – propellor
- Check propellor and spinner for nicks, cracks and security
- Check oil filler cap for security through the cooling air inlet in cowl nose cone
- Check cowl access doors for security
Nose
- Check nose gear strut and tyre inflation
- Check nose gear doors for security
- Check taxi light for damage
- Remove tie-down
- Check pitot tube opening for obstructions
- Check windshield for cleanliness
Right Wing – propellor
- Check propellor and spinner for nicks, cracks and security
- Check oil filler cap for security through the cooling air inlet in cowl nose cone
- Check cowl access doors for security
Right Wing – engine

Move VOR OBS so VOR needle moves left & right
Control wheel should follow the dir’n of needle
Select REV mode Control wheel should move oppos’t to NAV needle
Select APR mode Control wheel should follow the dir’n of needle
Mve control wheel to Lvl flight pos Engage ALT Mode – Move control wheel for & aft
Grasp control wheel & overpower roll servo
Should be smooth with no noise or jerks
Trim Check Manually apply backpressure to contr’l wheel 2-3s
Observe DN trim light illuminate
Apply forward pressure to control wheel 2-3 secs
Observe UP trim light illuminate
Move control wheel to centre Both UP & DN lights extinguish
Hold Control Wheel Depress ON/OFF switch (see roll & servo release)

- Then repeat AIR START PROCEDURE
